On August 20 - a Thursday morning from 10 am to noon, this exhibit opened at the BLISS Performance Center in the 2nd floor Belisle Art Gallery. This rotunda space featured nearly 30 artists with the range of intergenerational talent from both Belize and Mexico. From Belize's legendary "Papo" Eduardo Alamilla's portraits, who attended arriving from San Pedro, to the political art of Alex Sanker from Belize City - the range of talent was mind-blowing. The parking lot was packed when we arrived and the energy was electric! A whorl of lively conversations about art and reconnection filled the space along with music from Terryl Godoy's band on the mezzanine.
This one week exhibit was organized by Terryl Godoy a musician and visual artist from San Pedro along with co-curator Bettie Conchi from Mexico. Artists from throughout Belize and from Merida, Mexico participated. Of the other participants: Sophia Lisbey from San Pedro; Kelvin Baizar and Lincoln Gordon of Belmopan; Erwin Chan of Bullet Tree, King Khan of Belize City featured prominently at the ImagiNation Factri, Kevin Moralez, Marcos Manzanar from San Pedro, Omar Sierra from Placencia; Edgar Gomez from Benque and Walter Castillo of Bullet Tree. We saw the next generation of artists emerging in this space as well including 21-year-old Sylvanie Gonzalez from San Pedro with a playful style as well as Papo's daughter Ann Marie Alamilla with her gorgeous portraits in a brilliant palette.
Hailing from Mexico artists include: Cynthia Diaz, Beatrice brown del Rivero, Conchi Sanchez, Alejandra Cervera, Erica Madrigal Fallas,
This is a phenomenal exhibit that showcases the top talent of Belize's art scene that everyone should see.
