The sea has always been a powerful source of artistic inspiration in film, literature, music, and especially in the visual arts, where it becomes a profound space for reflection, beauty, and dialogue. From iconic works such as The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai, to the luminous Mediterranean scenes of Joaquín Sorolla and the contemporary seascapes of Jan De Vliegher, the image of the sea has transcended time and geography.
In Belize, the Caribbean Sea is central to national identity, history, and daily life. It is home to the second-largest barrier reef in the world, countless cayes, and the Great Blue Hole. The sea shaped the journey and heritage of the Garifuna people and also supported part of the legacy of the ancient Maya civilization. For Belizean artists, the sea is both muse and inheritance—an enduring source of inspiration that celebrates its beauty, explores its ecosystems, and promotes its preservation.
Today, our new Reyna’s Art Gallery in San Ignacio, Cayo, together with our team, seeks to honor the sea and invite artists from Belize to participate in our first major collective exhibition. This exhibition will explore marine life, the sea as inspiration and reflection, marine animals, and their diversity.
Our goal is to create an exhibition centered on a shared theme in Belize, with broad representation from artists, fostering a motivated collective willinging to exhibit in galleries both individually and as a group. This curated exhibition may later travel, accompanied by a catalog, to other galleries and resorts interested in showcasing works united by a common theme.
Exhibition Call – Guidelines and Dates
Submission
- Each artist may submit up to 5 photos of artworks.
- The curatorial committee will select 1 to 3 pieces per artist.
Requirements
- Open to artists of legal age who are residents or nationals of Belize.
- No registration fee.
- No restrictions on technique, materials, or size.
- New or previously created works are accepted.
- Modalities include painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and other artistic expressions.
Required Documentation
- Digital artist biography (for the gallery catalog and Belize Sol platform).
- Technical sheet for each artwork: artist name, title, technique, year, and price.

Shipping and Responsibilities
- Artworks may be shipped via BPMS (prior agreement required; shipping paid upon dispatch).
- Pickup available in San Ignacio, Cayo.
- The artist is responsible for securing shipping; the gallery is responsible for installation and return.
Sales and Promotion
- The gallery will promote the artworks.
- The gallery will add a 25% commission on sales.
Participation in this exhibition implies acceptance of the terms and conditions outlined in this call.

Tema. El Mar como inspiración, reflexión y vida.
El mar ha sido durante mucho tiempo una fuente de inspiración para la expresión artística en el cine, la literatura, la música y, especialmente, en las artes visuales, donde se convierte en un poderoso espacio de reflexión, belleza y diálogo. Desde obras icónicas como La gran ola de Kanagawa de Katsushika Hokusai hasta las luminosas escenas mediterráneas de Joaquín Sorolla y los paisajes marinos contemporáneos de Jan De Vliegher, la imagen del mar ha trascendido el tiempo y la geografía. En Belice, el mar Caribe es fundamental para la identidad nacional, la historia y la vida cotidiana, albergando la segunda barrera arrecifal más grande del mundo, innumerables cayos y el Gran Agujero Azul. El mar dio forma al viaje y la herencia del pueblo garífuna y también sostuvo parte del legado de la antigua civilización maya. Para los artistas beliceños, el mar es a la vez musa y herencia, inspirando obras que celebran su belleza, exploran sus ecosistemas y promueven su preservación.
Hoy nuestra nueva Galería de Arte Reyna’s ubicada en San Ignacio Cayo, con su equipo de trabajo queremos rendir homenaje al Mar y convocar a artistas de Belice a participar en nuestra primera Gran exposición de arte colectiva, donde vamos a dialogar y presentar obras sobre la vida Marina, el mar como inspiración y reflexión, los animales marinos y su diversidad.
Nuestro objetivo es hacer una exposición de arte con un tema común en Belize y que podamos tener gran representación de los artistas, para poder promover y trabajar con un colectivo de artistas motivados y con disposición de mostrar sus obras en Galerías de arte y en colectivo, luego esta exposición organizada puede ir con catalogo y curaduría a otras galerías y resort que quieran exponer en conjunto obras de artistas con un punto en común.
Convocatoria de Exposición – Bases y Fechas
- Cada artista puede enviar hasta 5 fotos de obras.
- El comité curatorial seleccionará de 1 a 3 piezas por artista.
Requisitos
- Participan artistas mayores de edad, residentes o nacionales de Belice.
- Sin costo de inscripción.
- Sin límites de técnica, materiales ni tamaño.
- Se aceptan obras nuevas o anteriores.
- Modalidades: pintura, escultura, instalación, fotografía u otras manifestaciones.
Documentación requerida
- Biografía digital del artista (para catálogo de la galería y plataforma Belize Sol).
- Ficha técnica de cada obra: nombre del artista, título, técnica, año y precio.
Fechas importantes
- Publicación de la convocatoria: febrero.
- Envío de fotos: hasta el sábado 21 de marzo

Ventas y promoción
- La galería promocionará las obras.
