The George Price Centre for Peace and Development (GPC) is a non-profit, non-governmental institution in Belize dedicated to preserving the legacy and ideals of George Cadle Price—Belize’s first Prime Minister, principal architect of independence, and National Hero. Established in 2000 by a group of supporters and colleagues, the Centre was created to promote Price’s lifelong commitment to peaceful development, democratic governance, and social justice.
The Centre was formally inaugurated on September 21, 2002—Belize’s Independence Day—and opened to the public on January 15, 2004, marking the anniversary of Price’s birth.³ Located on Price Centre Road in Belmopan, the institution serves as both a memorial and an active civic space. It houses archives, exhibitions, and educational programs focused on Belize’s political history, nation-building process, and the philosophy of “Peaceful Constructive Belizeanism” associated with Price’s leadership.
In addition to its role as a historical repository, the Centre functions as a venue for lectures, youth engagement initiatives, and policy discussions, reinforcing its mission to inspire future generations to pursue sustainable development grounded in ethics, civic responsibility, and national unity.
